Dibba Municipality has issued stern warnings to 254 food outlets for violating health and safety regulations following an extensive inspection campaign during Ramadan. The initiative, which involved 755 visits to various food establishments, aimed to ensure that public health and safety standards were upheld throughout the holy month, according to Eng. Hassan Salem Al Yamahi, director-general of Dibba Municipality.

“These campaigns are crucial in safeguarding public health and ensuring that food establishments uphold the highest standards of hygiene and compliance. We are committed to maintaining a safe and regulated market environment,” Al Yamahi told Khaleej Times.

Comprehensive Inspections Across Various Establishments

The municipality’s inspection covered a wide range of businesses, including restaurants, traditional kitchens, and barbershops, alongside establishments in the Ramadan market. In addition to checking hygiene protocols, the inspections focused on food labelling, pricing, and preventive measures to ensure compliance with established standards.

Public Cooperation and Reporting

Al Yamahi emphasised the importance of community involvement in maintaining food safety. He encouraged the public to report any violations through the municipality’s emergency hotline (092443399) or its social media platforms. “Our goal is to create a healthy and safe environment for everyone, and we encourage community cooperation to achieve this,” he added.

Supporting Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs)

The Ramadan market has also played a significant role in supporting small and medium enterprises (SMEs) by providing a platform for them to showcase traditional foods. The market operates across multiple locations, including the Dibba Association for Culture, Arts, and Theatre, commercial areas in Dibba, and Al Bidya’s fruit and vegetable market.

The municipality issued 79 permits to Ramadan-specific stores, ensuring that all slaughterhouses in Dibba and Al Bidya were adequately prepared for operations throughout the holy month and the upcoming Eid Al Fitr celebrations.

Dibba’s commitment to health and safety remains a priority as it continues to monitor local businesses and protect the community. For more on similar initiatives, read about the ongoing efforts in sustainable food innovation at Global Food Week 2025.
