Global Food Week 2025 Kicks Off in Abu Dhabi
Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President and Deputy Prime Minister of the UAE, the Global Food Week officially launched today at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC). The event, running from October 21 to 23, has attracted 2,070 participants from 75 countries, including 18 first-time exhibitors. This year’s edition marks a significant milestone in Abu Dhabi’s growing role as a hub for international food and agriculture innovation.
Record Participation and Growth
Global Food Week has seen impressive growth this year, with an increase of 15% in exhibition space, reaching 33,542 square meters. The number of exhibitors also rose by 9%, and the event now hosts participants from 75 countries, an 11% increase from the previous edition. Notably, 543 exhibitors are taking part for the first time, reflecting the rising global interest in the event’s offerings. Emirati companies make up half of the total participants, with 1,055 brands and exhibitors.
The event, organised by ADNEC Group in partnership with the Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority (ADAFSA) and other local entities, showcases key sectors such as food innovation, agri-tech, food security, and sustainable nutrition. The UAE’s leadership in these sectors is highlighted through the record-breaking participation of both public and private sector organisations.
Strategic Partnership with the FAO
The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations continues its strategic partnership with Global Food Week, reinforcing Abu Dhabi’s role in shaping global food security and sustainability dialogues. The FAO delegation at this year’s event brings valuable insights on combating climate change and improving agricultural practices. This partnership underscores the UAE’s commitment to tackling global food challenges while advancing sustainable food systems.
Focus on Alternative Proteins
A highlight of this year’s event is the Alternative Proteins initiative, launched by the AgriFood Growth & Water Abundance (AGWA) cluster under the Abu Dhabi Investment Office (ADIO). This new platform aims to connect innovators, investors, and regulators, fostering collaboration to develop more sustainable food production methods. The initiative is set to play a key role in transitioning the global food sector toward more environmentally friendly and efficient practices.
“Innovation in the food sector is essential for ensuring food security, achieving self-sufficiency, and supporting sustainable growth,” said Ahmad Shaker, CEO of Capital 360 and Capital Events. The focus on alternative proteins highlights Abu Dhabi’s commitment to leading the way in innovative food solutions, driving forward both regional and global food security efforts.
Date Palm Exhibition Highlights Local Innovation
Parallel to the Global Food Week, the 11th Abu Dhabi Date Palm Exhibition is drawing attention to the UAE’s leadership in the date industry. With over 90 pavilions showcasing date producers from 20 countries, the exhibition reflects the increasing global interest in sustainable date cultivation and processing methods. Dates, a staple in the region, are also seen as an example of balancing tradition with innovation in modern food systems.
New Initiatives and Strategic Partnerships
This year’s edition introduces several new initiatives, including the AgriTech Forum, dedicated to agri-innovation startups, and the Agricultural Investment Exhibition, which highlights the role of agriculture in economic growth. Additionally, the Hosted Buyers Program connects international corporate leaders with local suppliers, creating opportunities for cross-border partnerships. These initiatives underscore the event’s role as a critical platform for advancing food sector innovation.
Global Food Week 2025 positions Abu Dhabi as a key player in shaping the future of food and agriculture. As the event continues to expand, it is clear that the UAE is committed to fostering international cooperation and leading the way in sustainable food production.
