Qatar recently joined senior government and business leaders at the 9th Gulf–European Business Forum in Kuwait, a high-level summit aimed at strengthening economic ties between the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and the European Union (EU). The event, held under the theme “Together for Shared Prosperity,” served as a key platform for discussing trade, investment, and economic diversification between the two blocs.
Fostering Trade and Investment
Saleh bin Majid al-Khulaifi, Assistant Undersecretary for Industrial Affairs and Business Development at the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, represented Qatar at the forum. He participated in a panel discussion centred on trade and investment, which examined ways to fortify GCC-EU commercial relations and establish joint investment frameworks.
The discussion also highlighted the mutual benefits of advancing economic diversification efforts. This focus aligns with the strategic goals of many Gulf nations seeking to build sustainable, knowledge-based economies beyond their traditional industries.
Key Themes for Future Growth
The forum’s agenda was designed to deepen economic cooperation by supporting diversification initiatives and expanding collaboration in commerce. Key sessions addressed critical modern economic topics, including the digital economy, artificial intelligence, and innovation. As part of its national strategy, Qatar develops frameworks to boost digital contribution to GDP and modernise its economic base.
Further discussions covered the development of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), capacity-building programmes, and the empowerment of youth and entrepreneurs, all considered vital for long-term prosperity.
A Platform for Strategic Partnerships
Beyond the main sessions, the forum provided tangible opportunities for networking and direct engagement. An accompanying exhibition and a series of sectoral meetings allowed public and private sector representatives to connect and discuss specific projects. These sideline events were structured to help attendees explore potential partnerships and foster greater investment cooperation between the two regions.
The Gulf–European Business Forum continues to be a strategic event for building productive relationships. By bringing together key decision-makers, the summit facilitates important dialogue on shared economic goals and creates a foundation for future collaboration in high-growth sectors.
