The Qatar Chamber recently hosted a high-level Arab event aimed at fostering entrepreneurship and innovation among persons with disabilities. Held from 6 to 8 November 2025, the gathering included the third session of the “Living Independently Initiative for Persons with Disabilities” and an accompanying Arab Exhibition for Productive Families. The event was organised on the sidelines of the Second World Summit for Social Development.

Promoting Economic Integration

In his opening address, Mohammed bin Twar Al Kuwari, First Vice Chairman of the Qatar Chamber, described the initiative as a valuable opportunity to improve the integration of persons with disabilities into the labour market. He said the event also highlighted the importance of supporting productive families and contributing to the sustainable growth of their enterprises.

The forum was a major collaborative effort, held by the Union of Arab Chambers and the Arab League’s Social Affairs Sector. Key partners included the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport, and the Arab Labour Organisation.

Qatar’s National Commitment to Inclusion

Al Kuwari affirmed that Qatar places great importance on supporting persons with disabilities, seeking to ensure their effective participation in social, economic, and educational life. This commitment is a core component of the Qatar National Vision 2030. He emphasised that the nation has adopted an integrated system of legislation and policies that guarantee the rights of persons with disabilities, enabling them to contribute fully to national development. This focus on long-term growth is reflected in major national initiatives, as seen when Qatar, Egypt sign deal to implement $29.7bn urban development project.

The Role of the Qatar Chamber

The Qatar Chamber is actively involved in empowering productive families and promoting small-scale entrepreneurship. Al Kuwari noted that the Chamber works to provide platforms for home-based businesses to showcase and market their products both locally and internationally. He also stressed the Chamber’s efforts to encourage the private sector to integrate persons with disabilities into suitable jobs, aligning with the country’s broader goals for inclusion and equal opportunity. This support for business growth is part of a wider economic strategy, where entities like the QFC partners with Doha Bank to accelerate fintech growth in Qatar.

Showcasing Arab Talent and Craftsmanship

Attendees at the event toured an exhibition featuring a wide array of products created by people with disabilities. The showcase included accessories, handicrafts, silverware, wickerwork, traditional clothing, and ceramics. The exhibition drew significant regional interest, with 25 exhibitors participating from several Arab countries.

The event served as a practical platform for economic empowerment, connecting talented artisans and entrepreneurs with new opportunities. By bringing together key regional organisations, it reinforced a collective commitment to building more inclusive societies and economies across the Arab world.
