Representatives from Qatar’s Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoCI) and Pakistan’s Ministry of Commerce gathered in Islamabad to discuss ways to enhance bilateral cooperation. A statement from Qatar’s MoCI highlighted the strong, historical ties between the two nations and outlined plans to strengthen their collaboration across various sectors. The meeting centred on boosting economic partnerships, trade exchange, and mutual investments.

Focus on Economic Integration

The meeting was co-chaired by HE Sheikh Faisal, a senior Qatari official, and Pakistan’s Minister of Commerce, Jam Kamal Khan, with both sides represented by senior government figures. Sheikh Faisal underscored the significance of the longstanding relations between Qatar and Pakistan, pointing out that both countries’ leaderships place great importance on these ties. He noted that the bilateral partnership is driven by a shared strategic vision, particularly in economic, trade, and investment sectors.

Sheikh Faisal further stressed the role of the Joint Ministerial Committee in promoting the partnership and stated that both nations are committed to enhancing economic integration. He highlighted the need for collaborative efforts aimed at expanding trade and investment opportunities, which are essential for fostering inclusive and sustainable development.

Qatar–Pakistan Business Council

Another key topic discussed was the activation of the Qatar–Pakistan Business Council. This platform is seen as vital in supporting trade relations, empowering the private sector, and encouraging the development of joint ventures between businesses in both countries. The business council is expected to facilitate the creation of new projects, driving further economic collaboration.

The discussion also touched upon the importance of finalising the Free Trade Agreement between the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries and Pakistan. Sheikh Faisal remarked that the agreement would greatly enhance trade flows, investment opportunities, and the overall business environment, paving the way for a more integrated economic partnership between the two nations.

Expanding Bilateral Cooperation

Both sides explored several key areas for further cooperation, including trade, investment, infrastructure, industry, education, and technology. These sectors are seen as crucial for deepening ties and achieving greater collaboration. The statement concluded with both parties agreeing to accelerate joint development efforts, boost trade volumes, and encourage mutual investment.

Through these efforts, Qatar and Pakistan aim to create a more prosperous, interconnected future, further cementing their strategic partnership. This collaboration marks a significant step towards advancing their shared vision for a stronger, more integrated economic relationship.
