Qatar, Turkiye win praise for Pakistan-Afghan truce deal

GCC Secretary-General Jassim Mohammed Albudaiwi has praised the diplomatic efforts of Qatar and Turkiye in brokering a ceasefire agreement between Pakistan and Afghanistan, signed in Doha. Albudaiwi highlighted that the agreement marks a crucial step towards fostering stability and building trust between the two nations. The GCC leader also reaffirmed the organisation’s support for initiatives that seek to establish peace and encourage dialogue, not only in the region but globally, contributing to a more stable and prosperous future.

The efforts by Qatar and Turkiye have been lauded by other Gulf states. Saudi Arabia expressed its approval of the ceasefire and its endorsement of the mechanisms set in place to ensure long-term peace. The Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs underlined the Kingdom’s commitment to supporting regional and international initiatives that aim to bring stability, security, and prosperity to both Pakistan and Afghanistan.

Oman also joined in commending the diplomatic efforts of Qatar and Turkiye, with its Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressing hope for the agreement’s sustainability. Oman sees the ceasefire as an essential step towards achieving a comprehensive and lasting peace between the two countries.

Kuwait, too, welcomed the agreement, stressing its importance in reducing tensions and bolstering security. The Kuwaiti Ministry of Foreign Affairs praised the constructive role played by Qatar and Turkiye, emphasising the value of dialogue and diplomacy in resolving disputes and promoting security in the region.

Jordan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs echoed similar sentiments, applauding the mediation efforts by Qatar and Turkiye in securing the ceasefire. The Jordanian government reaffirmed its support for all efforts aimed at establishing security and stability in the border regions between Pakistan and Afghanistan.

Internationally, Russia and China also expressed their support for the ceasefire agreement. Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova welcomed the deal, urging both Kabul and Islamabad to enhance their cooperation, particularly in tackling terrorism. Similarly, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun commended the ceasefire and called for continued dialogue between Pakistan and Afghanistan to maintain regional peace and stability.

This agreement represents a significant diplomatic achievement, not only for the countries involved but also for the broader region. It underscores the importance of dialogue and international cooperation in resolving long-standing conflicts and ensuring lasting peace.
