The Embassy of Turkiye in Qatar celebrated the 102nd anniversary of the Republic of Turkiye’s founding on Wednesday. The event, hosted by Turkish Ambassador Dr Mustafa Goksu, was attended by prominent Qatari figures and members of the diplomatic community. Key attendees included HE the Shura Council Speaker Hassan bin Abdullah al-Ghanem, HE the Minister of State and Qatar National Library president Dr Hamad al-Kawari, HE the Minister of Endowments and Islamic Affairs Ghanem bin Shaheen al-Ghanem, and other notable ministers, along with senior Turkish community members.
Strengthening Ties Between Turkiye and Qatar
Dr Goksu highlighted the exceptional and growing relationship between Turkiye and Qatar, noting the strong partnership between President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani. This bond has evolved into a model strategic partnership, with cooperation reaching new heights in both regional and international spheres. He pointed to the establishment of the High Strategic Committee, which holds annual meetings alternately in both nations. The committee’s 11th session was recently held in Doha, underscoring the significance of their collaborative efforts.
The two countries have signed over 120 agreements and memoranda of understanding across various sectors, reflecting their comprehensive partnership. Turkish businesses have become vital contributors to Qatar’s development projects, while Qatari investors have played a key role in Turkiye’s economic growth. Their mutual economic cooperation extends beyond national borders, with joint projects being executed in various regions, promoting prosperity on a global scale.
Mutual Support in Times of Crisis
Dr Goksu also emphasised the steadfast support Turkiye and Qatar offer each other, particularly in challenging times. He reaffirmed that Turkiye will continue to stand by Qatar, aiding its sovereignty and security against any threats or aggression. This solidarity, he noted, is a hallmark of their enduring friendship.
Joint Efforts for Regional and Global Peace
In addition to their bilateral collaboration, Turkiye and Qatar work together on several key international issues, including those in Palestine, Gaza, Syria, Sudan, Pakistan, and Afghanistan. Their efforts to foster peace and stability in these regions are a testament to the strength of their partnership.
Dr Goksu further highlighted Turkiye’s growing influence on the global stage, underscoring its active role in maintaining peace, justice, and stability. With a rich history, a strong institutional framework, and a dynamic economy, Turkiye continues to serve as a responsible and engaged actor in regional and global affairs.
The event concluded with a ceremonial cake-cutting, attended by dignitaries and guests, celebrating the enduring friendship between Turkiye and Qatar.
