More than 150 mayors and leaders from 300 cities will gather in Dubai this month for the 2025 Asia Pacific Cities Summit (2025APCS) and Mayors’ Forum. Hosted at Expo City Dubai, the summit is set to drive significant advancements in urban living. As cities increasingly become hubs of innovation, investment, and progress, the gathering aims to turn ideas into tangible results by tackling pressing global issues such as affordable housing, urban heat management, and the shift towards data-intelligent and nature-based urban environments.
A Global Gathering for Urban Transformation
Under the patronage of Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Executive Council of Dubai, the summit will take place from October 27 to 29 at the Dubai Exhibition Centre. It will bring together policymakers, investors, business leaders, academics, and startups, all focused on shaping sustainable, people-first urban centres. The event will examine how cities can provide better transportation, housing, economic opportunities, healthcare, education, and green spaces, while also ensuring environmental sustainability.
The 2025APCS will serve as a platform for unveiling major urban development projects. In 2023, the summit saw opportunities valued at over AUD2.3 billion (Dh5.6 billion), and this year, Dubai Municipality will reveal a series of strategic launches aimed at advancing urban sustainability and smart infrastructure. These projects are expected to accelerate Dubai’s ongoing digital transformation and foster both local and international intercity collaboration.
Innovations in Urban Development
The 2025APCS will address key issues in urban planning, with an emphasis on sustainable, resilient, and liveable cities. Topics will cover a wide range of areas, from tackling urban heat effects to promoting nature-based solutions that help cities become more adaptable to climate change. These conversations will shape a roadmap for urban areas that prioritise human wellbeing while ensuring economic growth and environmental care.
Reem Al Hashimy, UAE Minister of State for International Cooperation and CEO of Expo City Dubai Authority, expressed pride in hosting this global summit. “From an exceptional World Expo to an impactful international climate summit, we are honoured to once again welcome the world to Dubai, building on Expo City’s legacy as a platform to address the world’s greatest challenges,” she said. The summit provides a unique opportunity to merge technological advancements with sustainable growth and innovative solutions.
Abdulla Mohammed Al Basti, Secretary General of the Executive Council of Dubai, highlighted the importance of global cooperation and shared progress. “Dubai is a symbol of both global cooperation and continuous progress,” he said, stressing the city’s commitment to human-centric urban planning and sustainable development. The summit, he added, will play a crucial role in advancing solutions to the complex challenges posed by rapid urbanisation.
Looking Ahead
The summit promises to provide a wealth of insights and opportunities for collaboration across urban development sectors. As cities around the world grapple with the challenges of rapid population growth and the need for smart infrastructure, the 2025APCS will chart a path for cities that are more inclusive, sustainable, and resilient. The event will not only foster local and international cooperation but will also underscore Dubai’s role as a leader in urban innovation.
As urbanisation accelerates, initiatives like those announced at the summit are vital to ensuring cities remain livable, efficient, and resilient.
