Visitors to Dubai’s Mamzar Beach Park were met with a disturbing sight on Saturday when the carcass of a cow was found washed up on the shoreline rocks.

A family visiting the popular recreational spot made the discovery after noticing a strong, unpleasant smell. Tasmiyah, a young Dubai resident, said she and her family were walking near the rock riprap when the odour became apparent.

“After climbing the rocks and going over to the other side, we saw a big, dead cow. It was very sad and disturbing,” she explained.

Authorities Alerted

Upon finding the animal at approximately 5 pm, Tasmiyah immediately informed lifeguards at the nearby Flamingo Beach. She reported that a police boat arrived at the scene about 25 minutes later to photograph the area.

In addition to alerting the lifeguards, her uncle used the Dubai Police application to report the incident. Tasmiyah also contacted Dubai Municipality, which assured her that a relevant team would be dispatched to handle the situation. The discovery of the carcass raised concerns about hygiene at public leisure spots, an area where the city generally maintains high standards. Dubai has recently seen major investments aimed at bolstering its international reputation, including a significant Dh40 million investment to lead a health tourism revolution.

The unusual incident on the shoreline stands in contrast to the carefully managed image of the city, which is globally recognised for its pristine attractions and the architectural masterpieces that reshape the skyline of Dubai.

At the time of reporting, the deceased animal remained on the rocks. Relevant authorities have been contacted for an official statement regarding the incident and the planned removal of the carcass.
