An Air India flight travelling from Vienna to New Delhi was diverted to Dubai early on Sunday morning following a suspected technical issue. The airline confirmed the aircraft landed safely and later continued its journey after undergoing necessary checks on the ground.
A spokesperson for the carrier stated that flight AI-154 was rerouted as a precautionary measure. According to the airline’s website, the aircraft touched down in Dubai at 4:07 am local time, approximately five and a half hours after its departure from Vienna. A standard non-stop flight on this route typically takes around eight hours and 15 minutes. The airline confirmed that all passengers were kept informed about the delay and were provided with refreshments during the unscheduled stopover in the UAE, a city known for its architectural masterpieces that reshape the skyline.
Recent Safety Incidents
This diversion follows another technical event involving the airline earlier in the month. On 4 October, an Air India Boeing 787 Dreamliner, operating as flight AI-117, made a safe landing in Birmingham after its Ram Air Turbine (RAT) was deployed. The RAT is a small, propeller-driven generator that activates automatically in emergencies if an aircraft loses its primary electrical or hydraulic power sources. Its deployment ensures that pilots can maintain control of the plane, a critical safety feature on modern commercial aircraft that connect global hubs. The successful management of these incidents underscores the importance of such hubs, including Dubai, where some of the world’s top billionaires bet on Dubai over Silicon Valley.
Following the technical inspection in Dubai, flight AI-154 was cleared for departure to complete its journey to New Delhi.
