The United States, Egypt, Qatar, and Turkey signed a declaration on Monday, positioning themselves as guarantors of a deal aimed at ending two years of war in Gaza. The agreement was finalised at a summit held in the Egyptian resort city of Sharm el-Sheikh.
Terms of the Accord
US President Donald Trump, who signed the document, expressed confidence in its effectiveness. “The document is going to spell out rules and regulations and lots of other things,” he said before the signing. Trump stressed his belief that the agreement would be durable, repeating that “it’s going to hold up.”
The accord brings together key regional and international powers to oversee its implementation. The summit’s location in Sharm el-Sheikh underscores Egypt’s traditional role as a mediator in regional conflicts. Qatar’s participation as a guarantor highlights its diplomatic engagement in the Middle East, which comes as reports show contracts awarded in the country jumped 116% in the third quarter. Turkey’s inclusion completes the group of four nations tasked with ensuring the deal’s success.
