UAE residents are planning more overseas holidays in 2026, with a growing number of trips centred on family connections, personal hobbies, and unique experiences, according to a new report.

The study by booking platform Skyscanner found that 61 per cent of people in the UAE intend to take more international holidays next year than they did in 2025. The research highlights a significant shift towards travel that serves specific personal interests, from skincare treatments to literary-inspired journeys.

Family and Social Connections

A prominent trend is the rise of multi-generational get-togethers, as families use holidays to reconnect. The report revealed that 41 per cent of UAE residents plan to travel with their family in 2026. This builds on a recent pattern where 31 per cent said they had travelled with parents and grandparents in the last two years.

Beyond family, travellers are also seeking new social connections. Data shows that 82 per cent of individuals in the UAE have considered travelling abroad to meet new people, and 32 per cent are open to meeting people from different cultures while on their trips.

Passion-Driven Itineraries

Personal interests are increasingly dictating travel plans. Beauty and skincare have emerged as a key motivator, with 45 per cent of residents planning to receive treatments or visit beauty stores abroad in 2026. This follows a trend where 55 per cent have previously purchased beauty products on international trips, with 37 per cent noting that such activities are often cheaper overseas.

Literary escapes are also gaining popularity. More than seven out of ten people consider reading time important while travelling, and 78 per cent have thought about booking a trip inspired by a book or other literary content.

Food is another major draw, with travellers seeking authentic local experiences. The report found that 83 per cent of people explore local supermarkets on their trips to learn more about the culture, and 44 per cent are keen to try local dishes.

Destination Choices

The choice of accommodation is becoming a primary factor in travel decisions. According to the data, 76 per cent of UAE travellers have selected a destination based purely on the hotel or lodging available.

There is also a growing appeal for mountain destinations, particularly for summer or autumn trips. Nearly 92 per cent of residents are considering a mountain holiday next year, with 31 per cent specifically planning a hiking trip. The main attractions cited were the clean air and cooler weather. Residents often take these trips during major holidays, with many travelling to destinations in Europe, Africa, and Asia.

Overall, the findings suggest that travel from the UAE is becoming more frequent and intentional, shaped by a desire for meaningful connections and experiences that align with personal passions.
