UAE families are increasingly planning multi-generational holidays, choosing to travel with parents and grandparents to reconnect amid busy lifestyles. This is one of several key travel motivations identified in a new report by the online booking platform Skyscanner.
The study found that 41 per cent of UAE residents intend to travel with their family in 2026. This builds on an established pattern, with 31 per cent reporting they had travelled with older relatives in the past two years.
According to the Skyscanner Travel Trends report for 2026, residents are also choosing destinations based on personal hobbies, literary interests, and even skincare treatments. Overall, travel intent is high, with 61 per cent of people planning to take more overseas holidays in 2026 than they did in 2025.
New Motivations for Travel
The report highlights a growing desire among travellers to form new social connections. Data shows 82 per cent of individuals in the UAE have considered travelling internationally to meet new people, and 32 per cent are open to meeting people from different cultures while abroad.
Accommodation is also becoming a primary reason for travel, rather than just a necessity. The study found that 76 per cent of UAE travellers have selected a destination purely because of the hotel or lodging available.
Another significant trend is the rise of beauty-focused tourism. While 55 per cent of adults in the UAE have previously bought beauty or skincare products on international trips, 45 per cent plan to visit beauty stores or receive treatments abroad in 2026. A key factor is cost, with 37 per cent stating that beauty-related activities are cheaper overseas.
Seeking Cooler Climates and Local Culture
Mountain destinations are gaining popularity as an escape from the heat. A remarkable 92 per cent of people in the UAE are considering a trip to the mountains in the summer or autumn of next year. Clean air and cooler weather were cited by 59 per cent as the main appeal, while 31 per cent are specifically planning a hiking trip.
Travellers are also showing a keen interest in authentic local experiences, particularly through food. The report revealed that 83 per cent of residents explore local supermarkets on their trips, with 57 per cent believing they learn more about the local culture in the food aisles.
Finally, literary escapes are influencing travel plans. More than 70 per cent of travellers consider reading time an important part of their holiday, and 78 per cent have thought about booking a trip inspired by a book or other literary content.
