Chinese Companies in Qatar Foster Cultural Exchange Through Employee Stories
A recent event provided a valuable platform for both Chinese and non-Chinese employees in Qatar to share their personal and professional experiences working for Chinese companies in the country. The stories highlighted how these roles have introduced workers to new cultural dynamics, both within Qatar and China. Participants expressed themselves in a variety of languages, including Chinese, English, and Arabic, offering diverse perspectives on the work environment.
The event was attended by key figures, including the Chinese Ambassador to Doha, Cao Xiaolin, and Wang Weichao, General Manager of the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC) Doha Branch, along with other officials and representatives from Chinese businesses operating in Qatar.
During the event, the Chinese Ambassador praised the efforts of the companies and employees involved, noting that the stories shared were moving and filled with positive energy. “This competition is a truly meaningful event. All the companies and participants have made thorough preparations, and the stories you shared were wonderful some deeply moving, others filled with positivity and inspiration. The competition was exciting and engaging,” said Ambassador Cao.
He further added that the participants’ experiences reflected the shared commitment of all employees of Chinese enterprises in Qatar to strengthen the bond between China and Qatar. “Your stories are miniature portraits of the joint efforts made by all employees of Chinese enterprises in Qatar to strengthen the friendship between China and Qatar. It can be said that this competition helps promote mutual understanding and deepen friendship,” the Ambassador remarked.
Ambassador Cao also highlighted the historical significance of the China-Arab relationship, noting that over a thousand years ago, the Silk Road laid the foundation for mutual understanding. He referenced the first China-Arab States Summit held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, in December 2022, where President Xi Jinping and Arab leaders committed to fostering stronger China-Arab ties. “The friendly exchanges between China and the Arab world are deeply rooted in history,” he said. “We aim to carry forward the spirit of China-Arab friendship, building a China-Arab community with a shared future.”
As the event continued, Cao emphasised that the bond between China and Qatar has only grown stronger in recent years. The cultural and people-to-people exchanges between the two nations continue to expand, and the Chinese companies’ employees representing a mix of Qatar, China, and other countries are playing an important role in fostering this connection. “All of you work diligently in your fields, contributing to the promotion of friendship and the continuation of the bond between China and Qatar,” he remarked.
In closing, the Ambassador expressed his hope that more Chinese companies in Qatar would host such events, which would not only enhance their corporate social responsibility initiatives but also promote greater cultural exchange between the two nations. “We have always provided, and will continue to provide, all possible support and services to promote the growth and development of Chinese enterprises in Qatar,” he stated.
The event concluded with an award ceremony, where the winners were recognised for their outstanding contributions with certificates and mementos, marking the successful culmination of a meaningful cultural exchange.
