The “Words Meet Harmonies” concert at The Fridge in Alserkal was an unforgettable experience, leaving the sold-out audience mesmerised by the flawless harmony of two outstanding choirs: Angels Singing Choir and the Filipino ensemble, Koro Ducere + Dubai Camerata Singers. The performance not only showcased musical excellence but also created a deeply emotional connection, making it a truly spiritual evening.

From the moment the Angels Singing Choir began their performance, the atmosphere shifted. Their voices, ethereal and angelic, filled the venue, sending waves of calm and chills through the crowd. Their harmony was so smooth and flawless, it felt as though the audience had been transported to another realm. The richness and depth of their sound were so compelling that many simply closed their eyes to soak in the beauty of the moment.

The Filipino choir brought their own brilliance to the stage. Their powerful and pitch-perfect delivery impressed everyone, creating a sonic wave that captivated the audience. The moment the two choirs joined forces, it was clear that something extraordinary was unfolding. The unity of their voices created a kind of magic that can only come from deeply soulful music. As one audience member, Dawn, tearfully put it, “They made me cry. I have goosebumps.”

Equally deserving of recognition was Maysel Joy Dano, whose piano playing transcended accompaniment. She didn’t merely play the keys; she conversed with the music, allowing the melodies to flow through her as she interacted with the choirs. Her performance was not just musical but emotional, giving the audience another layer of connection to the show.

Danabelle Gutierrez, whose poetry added a raw and moving dimension to the night, provided the emotional core of the performance. Her words, deeply poignant and authentic, wove seamlessly into the music. The way she delivered her poems with such presence left an indelible mark on the audience, elevating the evening into a collective, shared experience.

Behind the scenes, conductors Yuliana Kireyeva and Arne Lubasan ensured the smooth execution of the night, guiding the choirs with skill and passion. The creative team behind the show deserves immense credit for bringing together such a powerful display of talent and emotion.

However, the venue posed a challenge. While The Fridge’s intimate setting created a personal atmosphere, it was not equipped for a performance of this grandeur. The small seating capacity left the space packed to its limits, with every seat occupied. A performance of this scale, in terms of both sound and emotional depth, deserved a venue that could do it justice. A location like Dubai Opera, with its larger capacity and world-class facilities, would be a fitting home for such a performance.

Audience members were visibly moved. One spectator, Olga Barcelona, whispered, “It’s like angels are singing,” capturing the essence of the experience. The emotional impact of the performance was undeniable, leaving many in a state of deep reflection.

This performance proved the power of music and poetry to unite, heal, and elevate the human spirit. It was not merely a concert but an event that left the audience feeling profoundly connected. More performances like “Words Meet Harmonies” are needed ones that combine music, poetry, and storytelling in such an authentic and soul-stirring way.

The cast and creators of the show are to be commended for offering not just a performance, but a deeply moving experience. Bravo to all involved!
