flydubai to Enhance Economy Class with Complimentary Meals and Entertainment

Dubai airline flydubai has revealed plans to enhance its Economy Class offering, which will include complimentary meals and inflight entertainment starting November 2025. This significant shift in the carrier’s business model aims to provide a more elevated and convenient travel experience for passengers.

A New Approach to Economy Class

The carrier’s CEO, Ghaith Al Ghaith, highlighted the importance of this move, stating, “Redefining the Economy Class offering across all flights represents a significant evolution in our business model, offering customers a more elevated and convenient travel journey.” Passengers can look forward to a menu inspired by the airline’s global destinations, with regional dishes from Africa, Europe, India, the Middle East, Russia, and Southeast Asia. Offerings will vary depending on the route and flight duration.

In addition to the meal upgrades, passengers will also enjoy access to over 1,000 films, spanning Hollywood, Bollywood, Arabic, and international cinema. TV shows from HBO Max, BBC Kids, and Cartoon Network will be available, alongside interactive games, more than 700 music albums, and podcast episodes.

Hamad Obaidalla, flydubai’s Chief Commercial Officer, noted that the timing of the announcement aligns with the airline’s plans for expansion, including a growing fleet and network. “This announcement has come at the right time as we prepare to expand our network, continue to grow our fleet and welcome more passengers on board year after year,” he said.

Fleet Growth and Network Expansion

flydubai has been on an ambitious growth path, receiving nine new aircraft in 2025, bringing its fleet of Boeing 737s to 95. The airline expects to receive three more by the end of the year. flydubai currently serves more than 135 destinations worldwide, and recently launched flights to Chișinău, Moldova, and Iași, Romania. In December, services will also begin to Vilnius, Lithuania, and Riga, Latvia.

However, the airline faced challenges in 2024 due to delays in Boeing’s supply chain, which forced it to cancel several planned routes. Despite these setbacks, the airline remains focused on expansion and future growth.

Future Investments and Long-Haul Plans

Beyond fleet expansion, flydubai has invested heavily in improving its ground facilities. This includes a dedicated Business Class check-in area and a new Business Class Lounge at Dubai International Airport’s Terminal 2.

Looking to the future, flydubai is preparing to receive its first Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft by 2027, which will pave the way for long-haul routes and increased capacity on existing services. This marks an important step in the airline’s strategy to diversify and expand its network.

As flydubai continues to grow its fleet and services, it will be interesting to see how its enhanced Economy Class offering contributes to its competitive positioning in the regional and global airline markets.
