Dubai Metro commuters can now report train delays in real time via Google Maps, offering fellow passengers a more accurate view of transit conditions. This new feature, located on Google Maps’ top bar next to the ‘Directions’ button, is available for users when viewing a specific route. It currently covers the Red and Green Metro lines, including key stations such as Centrepoint, Expo, Creek, e&, and Life Pharmacy.

Although there has been no official announcement, it appears the feature is being rolled out gradually, possibly as part of a pilot phase. To report a delay, users must sign in to their Google account and use the ‘Report delay’ option. This allows commuters to manually flag any train delays, which could improve real-time updates for others. Delays reported by other users will appear as alerts, providing a crowdsourced view of Metro conditions.

When confirming a delay report, users can tap ‘Yes’ if the train is delayed or ‘No’ if the delay is no longer in effect. If unsure, they can select the ‘Not sure’ option. This new feature builds on the existing service that allows users to access real-time updates for buses on Google Maps, a service already provided by Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA).

The addition of user-reported train delays marks another step in improving public transport information for commuters in Dubai. With this crowdsourced data, the city’s Metro system becomes even more transparent, helping passengers better plan their journeys. The RTA’s ongoing efforts to enhance transit services align with broader changes in the region’s public transport infrastructure, such as the developments outlined in Dubai RTA turns 20: How emirate’s public transport system changed over the years.

As more commuters contribute to these real-time updates, the system is likely to become even more reliable. This crowdsourced approach could become an important tool for those looking to avoid delays, especially during peak travel times.
