The Qatar Scientific Club (QSC), in partnership with Doha Municipality, has launched a tree-planting campaign at its premises as part of its commitment to environmental awareness and community development. The initiative, which aligns with the activities of Qatar Sustainability Week 2025, aims to engage young people in practical conservation efforts by greening the club’s grounds and surrounding areas.

Fostering Environmental Awareness

The campaign was designed to educate participants on the critical role of trees and vegetation in improving air quality and preserving biodiversity. It also provided practical instruction on agricultural basics, planting techniques, and the principles of environmental sustainability. A key focus was fostering a sense of individual responsibility and promoting volunteerism as a core community value. These local efforts are part of a wider trend where events across the region accelerate green innovation and investment.

Participants planted a variety of native trees and plants specifically chosen for their suitability to Qatar’s climate. The planting was conducted under the close supervision of specialists from the Parks Department at Doha Municipality, who offered hands-on guidance on proper planting methods and long-term plant care.

Strengthening Community Partnerships

The initiative highlights a growing collaboration between scientific clubs and government bodies to achieve national goals. Officials from both organisations commented on the campaign’s significance.

A Focus on Future Generations

Engineer Abdulrahman Saleh Khamis, Deputy Executive Director of QSC, said the initiative reflects the club’s dedication to working with government entities to support Qatar’s sustainability objectives. He added that environmental awareness begins with the younger generation, making practical activities essential for instilling lasting values and encouraging participation in green projects.

Expanding Urban Green Spaces

Salem Abdullah Al Marri, Head of Parks at Doha Municipality’s Services Affairs Department, emphasised the importance of such campaigns in raising awareness among young people. He noted that these activities provide students with valuable hands-on experience and contribute directly to expanding the nation’s green spaces, a key part of sustainable urban development.

Qatar Sustainability Week serves as a vital national platform for showcasing efforts to advance environmental, social, and economic progress. The Qatar Scientific Club’s active participation underscores its role in fostering a scientific and environmental culture, inspiring youth to contribute to their community through innovation and volunteer work.
