The Filipino community in the UAE is preparing for its largest annual gathering, with the Kalayaan 2025 Philippine Independence Day celebration set for 1 June at the Dubai World Trade Centre. Organisers expect more than 25,000 people to attend the free, day-long event.
Running from 8 am to 8 pm in Halls 1 and 2, the celebration is organised by Emirates Loves Philippines, Infinite Communities, and The Filipino Channel (TFC). The event aims to showcase Filipino culture, talent, and community spirit through a full day of activities.
A Celebration of Culture
Attendees can expect a programme filled with live music and cultural performances from Filipino artists. The venue will also host a wide range of food and retail stalls, offering traditional delicacies and products from small businesses and local creators.
Community exhibits will focus on the history and heritage of the Philippines, complemented by games and prize draws suitable for all ages.
Marford Angeles, the Philippine Consul General for Dubai and the Northern Emirates, encouraged all Filipinos in the UAE to participate. “We will honour our rich culture, showcase our talents, and celebrate the spirit of being Filipino,” he said.
Angeles described the event as a tribute to the “strength, spirit, and stories of overseas Filipinos.” He added that it is an opportunity to recognise the contributions of Filipino expatriates and to strengthen community bonds across the UAE. “Each year, the event grows even bigger and bolder, bringing together thousands in a vibrant celebration of Filipino identity, heritage, and pride,” he stated.
Performances from Filipino Stars
A lineup of four popular entertainers from the Philippines is scheduled to perform in Dubai for the celebration. The guest list includes:
- Julia Barretto: An acclaimed actress, model, and entrepreneur known for her leading roles in films such as Vince and Kath and James and Love You to the Stars and Back.
- MJ Cayabyab: A versatile performer recognised for his work as a singer, dancer, host, and actor.
- Kaisha Montinola: A 17-year-old singer and television personality who gained fame on the reality show Pinoy Big Brother.
- Jarren Garcia: A singer who first gained prominence on The Voice Kids UK before appearing on Pinoy Big Brother: Gen 11.
Admission to Kalayaan 2025 is free. Guests are encouraged to wear traditional Filipino attire or the colours of the national flag to mark the occasion. The event offers a chance for community members to connect and celebrate their shared heritage.
