In response to cardiovascular disease remaining the leading cause of death worldwide, Gulf News has launched Heart Matters, a new four-part vodcast series. Produced in partnership with King’s College Hospital London in Dubai, the series is designed to provide vital information on heart health.

Released to coincide with World Heart Day, the initiative highlights the importance of awareness and preventive care. According to the World Health Organisation, approximately 80 per cent of heart conditions can be prevented by modifying lifestyle and environmental factors. The vodcast aims to give listeners the knowledge to make these changes.

Expert Insights on Heart Health

Across four episodes, Heart Matters features conversations with leading cardiologists and surgeons from King’s College Hospital London in Dubai, covering risk factors, symptoms, and advances in treatment.

The first episode, Heart of the Matter, features Dr Masood Khan, a Consultant Interventional Cardiologist, who explores major risk factors such as hypertension, high cholesterol, smoking, and family history. In the second instalment, Consultant Cardiac Surgeon Dr Babar Bashir Chaudhri explains the differences between a heart attack and heart failure, discussing modern surgical techniques and the importance of early intervention.

The third episode focuses on demystifying complex cardiac procedures. Dr Mehmood Butt, Head of the Cardiovascular Department, discusses everything from CT-angiograms to minimally invasive valve replacements, including innovations like TAVI and shockwave therapy. In the final episode, Dr Layla Al Marzooqi, a Specialist Cardiologist and Aeromedical Examiner, explains why individuals with diabetes must pay close attention to their cardiovascular health and outlines steps to reduce their risk.

By combining expert medical opinion with practical advice, the series encourages listeners to adopt healthier lifestyles, seek regular screenings, and take proactive steps to protect their heart.

The first episode of Heart Matters will be released on 19 September and will be available on the Gulf News website and major podcast channels.
