flydubai to Enhance Economy Class Offering with Free Meals and Entertainment

Dubai-based airline flydubai has unveiled an upgrade to its economy class experience, including free meals and in-flight entertainment for all passengers. This new service will begin in November 2025, aiming to deliver more value and a better experience for its customers.

A Strategic Shift for flydubai

In an announcement made on Wednesday, flydubai’s CEO Ghaith Al Ghaith highlighted that this move marks a significant step forward in the airline’s business model. “Redefining the Economy Class offering across all flights represents a significant evolution, offering customers a more elevated and convenient travel journey,” said Al Ghaith. “Our focus remains on investing in enhancing our customer experience and delivering added value across every touchpoint through services, technologies, and product development.”

The decision to enhance the economy class service comes at a time when the airline is also expanding its fleet and network. This shift is expected to make flydubai more competitive in the ever-evolving airline industry.

What’s Included in the New Economy Class

Flydubai’s new offering will include complimentary meals and a selection of in-flight entertainment options for economy passengers. The airline has made significant strides in expanding its entertainment options over the years. Passengers will be able to enjoy a diverse range of content, with more than 1,000 films in various languages, including Hollywood, Bollywood, Arabic, and international titles. There will also be TV shows from major studios like HBO Max, BBC Kids, and Cartoon Network. Interactive games, e-magazines, music albums, and podcasts are part of the entertainment package, providing passengers with a variety of ways to pass the time during their flight.

The airline’s meal service will also offer a variety of options, with regional menus featuring dishes from Africa, Europe, India, the Middle East, Russia, and Southeast Asia. Light snacks and refreshing beverages will be available as well, adding more value to the overall passenger experience.

Modifying the Fare Structure

Flydubai’s Chief Commercial Officer Hamad Obaidalla mentioned that the modifications to the airline’s economy class fare structure aim to provide more value while remaining competitive. However, Obaidalla did not reveal specific details on how this change would impact ticket prices.

“We’re modifying the Economy Class fare structure and ensuring passengers get more value, while remaining competitive,” said Obaidalla.

Continued Growth and Expansion

Flydubai, which was initially launched as a budget carrier, has been evolving steadily. Over the years, the airline has introduced Business Class services, expanded its in-flight offerings, and opened a Business Class lounge at Terminal 2. This expansion is set to continue with the delivery of nine new Boeing 737s this year, bringing the total fleet size to 95 aircraft. An additional three planes are expected by the end of 2025, as the airline works to cater to more than 135 destinations worldwide.

As part of its retrofit programme, the airline is introducing lie-flat Business Class seats and new Economy Class seats across its Boeing 737-800 fleet. Flydubai also plans to recruit hundreds of new employees to manage its growing fleet and increased passenger numbers.

With these enhancements, flydubai continues to evolve its services to cater to a broader customer base, from budget-conscious passengers to those seeking a more premium experience.
