Emirati businessman and former diplomat Hamad bin Ahmed bin Salem Al Hajri has made a significant philanthropic contribution by donating seven buildings in prime areas across Dubai. This donation, valued at approximately Dh110 million, is among the largest real estate endowments of the year, according to the Endowments and Minors’ Affairs Foundation (Awqaf Dubai). The buildings, located in Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Gardens, Al Hebiah Fourth, and Al Murraqad, will generate continuous charitable revenue, supporting community development projects in the UAE.

Sadaqah Jariyah: A Lasting Philanthropic Legacy

Al Hajri described the donation as a form of Sadaqah Jariyah a continuous charity that benefits others long after the donor’s passing. The proceeds from the endowment will go toward supporting various charitable initiatives through Awqaf Dubai. This gesture, which honours both his own legacy and that of his late parents, is intended to create a lasting impact and foster a spirit of giving for future generations.

“The donation is a way for me to create a lasting legacy of charity, benefiting both my family and the broader community,” Al Hajri explained. He also emphasised that the endowment reflects the values instilled by the UAE’s founding father, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. These values of generosity, solidarity, and social responsibility continue to guide the nation’s leadership today.

Strengthening Dubai’s Role in Sustainable Charitable Work

Ali Al Mutawa, Secretary-General of Awqaf Dubai, praised Al Hajri’s initiative as a powerful example of generosity, which enhances Dubai’s reputation as a leader in sustainable charitable endeavours. He highlighted that such contributions are vital in funding humanitarian, educational, healthcare, and service projects that benefit the wider community.

“We highly appreciate this noble initiative, which will help fund critical community development efforts,” Al Mutawa stated. “It also serves as a catalyst for further contributions from both individuals and institutions.”

Awqaf Dubai’s work aligns with the leadership’s broader vision of expanding the role of Waqf (endowment) as a tool for community development. The Foundation currently manages assets worth Dh11.1 billion, comprising 1,043 Waqfs from 578 donors. The growth in participation from both citizens and residents of Dubai reflects the city’s deep commitment to charitable work and social responsibility.

A Legacy of Giving

Al Hajri’s donation is a continuation of the philanthropic legacy of the UAE’s leaders, reinforcing the country’s dedication to social welfare and community support. As Awqaf Dubai continues to expand its endowment programmes, it is expected that more individuals and organisations will follow Al Hajri’s example, further strengthening Dubai’s position as a hub for sustainable charitable work.

By making such an impactful donation, Al Hajri has ensured that his contribution to the community will endure, benefiting many generations to come.
