Qatar Airways has reached a significant milestone in its in-flight connectivity programme, equipping over 100 of its widebody aircraft with high-speed Starlink Wi-Fi ahead of schedule. The airline, which operates the largest number of Starlink-equipped widebody planes, has already completed over 30,000 flights offering passengers uninterrupted, gate-to-gate internet access.
Accelerated Rollout Across the Fleet
Since introducing its first Starlink-equipped Boeing 777 in October 2024, Qatar Airways has rapidly expanded the service, now covering more than half of its widebody fleet. This achievement marks one of the most ambitious Starlink installation programmes in the aviation industry. The carrier has completed the rollout across its entire Boeing 777 fleet and is quickly finalising installations on its Airbus A350 aircraft.
The initiative positions the carrier as a leader in passenger experience and reflects a broader national trend, as seen when Qatar pioneered digital cultural innovation with its NMoQ Metaverse Project. The airline currently operates up to 200 Starlink-connected flights daily to key destinations across its global network.
High-Speed Connectivity at 35,000 Feet
The complimentary service provides passengers with ultra-fast Wi-Fi, enabling them to stream content, play online games, or work during their flight. This level of in-flight service complements ground-based upgrades, such as when Oman Airports became the world’s first to launch WiFi 7 technology.
Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive Officer, Engr. Badr Mohammed Al-Meer, commented on the rapid progress. “We have expedited our Starlink rollout, which is now advancing ahead of schedule as Qatar Airways brings the best travel experience to our passengers as an immediate priority, not a future ambition,” he said. Al-Meer noted that the speeds are often faster than many home Wi-Fi services, making it more convenient than ever to stay connected in the air.
Global Network Coverage
Passengers in all cabin classes can access the service on flights spanning six continents. The connectivity is available on routes to most of the airline’s destinations in the Americas and Australia, as well as on major routes in Africa, Asia, Europe, and the Middle East. With a network of over 170 destinations, the widespread availability of high-speed internet is a key feature for both business and leisure travellers.
The accelerated programme cements Qatar Airways’ position as the only carrier in the MENA region currently offering Starlink connectivity. This commitment to technological adoption supports its reputation for innovation and reliability, which was recognised when it was voted the World’s Best Airline by Skytrax in 2025 for the ninth time.
