Filipino tennis player Alex Eala has made an early exit from the Japan Open 2025 in Osaka, continuing a difficult run of form during her Asian tour. The 20-year-old was defeated in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2, by rising Czech star Tereza Valentova on Tuesday.
The loss marks Eala’s second premature departure from a tournament in October. On 4 October, she was eliminated in the qualifying round of the WTA 500 Wuhan Open in China after a three-set contest against Japanese player Moyuka Uchijima.
Valentova’s Dominant Performance
In Osaka, the 18-year-old Valentova demonstrated formidable skill from the outset. She won the first four games and broke Eala’s serve three times to secure the opening set decisively.
The Czech player carried her momentum into the second set, quickly establishing a 3-0 lead. Although Eala, ranked world number 54, managed to win two of the next three games, Valentova maintained her composure to close out the match.
Valentova has had a remarkable season, climbing from world number 241 to 78. Her year includes two WTA 125 titles and second-round appearances at both the French Open and the US Open.
Despite the recent results, Eala has two more tournaments to regain form. She is scheduled to play in the Guangzhou Open on 20 October and the Hong Kong Tennis Open on 27 October.
