A striking 50-metre mural has been unveiled on the facade of The Gate Building at Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC), serving as a powerful tribute to the UAE’s heritage and its ambitious future. The artwork features portraits of the nation’s Founding Fathers alongside symbols of its pioneering space programme, including the Hope Probe and the Rashid Rover.

A Tribute to National Ambition

The artwork represents the country’s journey from the founding of the Union to its significant achievements in space exploration. It incorporates key symbols of this progress, such as the Etihad-SAT, Rashid Rover 2, and the Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Centre’s Rashid Rover. These elements are juxtaposed with portraits of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan and the late Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum, illustrating how their foundational vision continues to inspire progress.

Part of the #ZayedAndRashid Campaign

This installation is a central feature of the #ZayedAndRashid campaign, organised for the second year by Brand Dubai. The campaign is part of the wider ‘National Month’ celebrations, which run from UAE Flag Day on 3 November to the 54th Eid Al Etihad on 2 December. It commemorates the legacy of the Founding Fathers and their historic meeting in Al Khawaneej, which paved the way for the formation of the Union.

Leadership Perspectives on the Artwork

Officials have highlighted the mural’s significance in connecting the past with the present. Shaima Al Suwaidi, director of Brand Dubai, stated that the artwork “combines portraits of the Founding Fathers, who instilled in the nation the values of determination and faith, with artistic elements that reflect the UAE’s progress in science and space”.

Alya Al Zarouni, chief operating officer at DIFC, noted the synergy between heritage and innovation. “The stunning artwork symbolises how economic leadership and innovation are anchored in strong national foundations,” she said, adding that it reflects how DIFC supports Dubai’s vision for progress and inspires future generations. Amina Taher, a member of the campaign’s organising committee, emphasised that the piece strengthens national identity by celebrating the lasting impact of the founders’ legacy.

The Artist Behind the Vision

The mural was created by Emirati artist Ahmed BaFadhl, an architect and visual creator known for work that reflects a deep connection to the UAE’s landscape. Influenced by his late grandfather, BaFadhl developed a style blending simplicity with imagination. After starting with pencil and coffee sketches, he later embraced digital art as a medium to express emotion and national identity from a distinctly Emirati perspective.

The #ZayedAndRashid campaign, a collaboration between Brand Dubai and various public and private sector partners, will continue to hold events across Dubai. These activations serve as a collective tribute that reinforces the unity of Emirati society and its connection to the nation’s leadership and rich heritage.
