The recent discussions between Qatari and Saudi media officials have highlighted the ongoing cooperation between the two nations in the media sector. The talks, which took place under the framework of the Qatari-Saudi Coordination Council’s media committee, were attended by senior figures from both countries. On the Qatari side, notable attendees included HE Sheikh Khalid bin Abdulaziz Al-Thani, CEO of the Qatar Media Corporation (QMC), and HE Ahmed bin Saeed Al Rumaihi, Director-General of Qatar News Agency (QNA). From Saudi Arabia, the delegation was led by HE Dr. Khalid Al Ghamdi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Media for External Media, alongside HE Ali bin Abdullah Alzaid, Acting President of the Saudi Press Agency (SPA), and HE Mohammad bin Fahd Al Harithi, CEO of the Saudi Broadcasting Authority.
Strengthening Media Ties
The focus of the talks was on enhancing media partnerships and exchanges between the two countries. The discussions centred around projects aimed at deepening the existing ties between Qatar and Saudi Arabia. Both sides expressed admiration for the role their respective media institutions play in presenting content that reflects the fraternal relations between the two nations. These initiatives align with the vision of both countries’ leaderships, serving the broader interests of their people.
In his remarks, the Chairperson of QMC highlighted the natural synergy between the two nations, which provides an ideal environment for developing media initiatives that reflect shared values. The strong ties and kinship between Qatar and Saudi Arabia were seen as a solid foundation for future media collaboration. He further noted the achievements in the field of cooperation between the countries’ media institutions but emphasised that there is still potential for greater integration and sustainability, which could serve as a model for bilateral relations.
Expanding Collaborative Efforts
The Minister of Media of Saudi Arabia also echoed the sentiment, praising the current state of media cooperation between the two countries. He expressed a desire to broaden the scope of collaboration, which he believes could serve as a reflection of the excellent relations between the nations and contribute to their shared media vision.
A number of new media initiatives were proposed during the meeting. Among them were plans for training programmes aimed at nurturing young media professionals, as well as discussions surrounding broadcasting rights for national sports teams. Additionally, the two countries agreed to collaborate on producing a television drama that explores the deep-rooted historical connections between them.
Future Plans and Joint Efforts
At the conclusion of the meeting, both parties agreed to establish a joint working group. This group will oversee the development of an executive plan for the agreed initiatives, projects, and programmes. Regular monthly meetings will be held, alternating between Qatar and Saudi Arabia, to monitor progress and ensure the successful implementation of these media initiatives.
These steps are part of a larger effort to foster closer ties through media, and the initiatives are expected to play a crucial role in strengthening the historical relationship between the two nations. This collaboration not only underscores the significance of media in diplomacy but also sets the stage for future projects that can further enhance Qatar and Saudi Arabia’s partnership.
