Gulf Medical University (GMU) has inaugurated the Thumbay AI Clinic, a pioneering innovation space designed to integrate artificial intelligence into healthcare education and clinical practice. The facility, launched in partnership with Zoom Video Communications and HP | Poly, marks a significant step in the university’s digital transformation journey. Dr Thumbay Moideen, founder president of Thumbay Group, attended the launch as the chief guest.

A Hub for AI-Driven Healthcare Education

The Thumbay AI Clinic is a first-of-its-kind learning environment where students, faculty, and healthcare professionals can explore the practical applications of AI in diagnostics, telemedicine, and collaborative patient care. It functions as a hands-on innovation hub, allowing future clinicians to gain experience with AI-assisted workflows that improve precision and efficiency.

This initiative is central to GMU’s vision of embedding technology into its curriculum. The goal is to produce graduates who are not only skilled in clinical practice but also fluent in the digital tools shaping modern medicine. This focus on technological proficiency aligns with a broader regional push to accelerate digital innovation across various sectors.

Technology Powering the Clinic

The clinic’s advanced capabilities are powered by Zoom’s AI Companion and supported by hardware from HP | Poly. Key features include AI-generated clinical notes, automated summaries of meetings, and context-aware collaboration tools. These functions operate on Zoom’s HIPAA-compliant platform, which ensures the secure handling of patient information and enables hybrid models of care that connect hospitals, classrooms, and clinics.

To create an immersive learning experience, the facility integrates HP | Poly’s high-fidelity audio systems, intelligent cameras, and interactive touchscreens. This technology allows for seamless, real-time interaction between physical and virtual environments, simulating the dynamic nature of contemporary healthcare settings.

Leadership on Healthcare’s Future

During the inauguration, Dr Thumbay Moideen stated that the clinic reflects GMU’s mission to prepare the next generation of healthcare leaders for an AI-driven world. “This initiative embodies our belief that the future of healthcare lies at the intersection of knowledge, compassion, and technology,” he said. “The Thumbay AI Clinic is where education meets innovation, turning possibilities into practice.”

Professor Manda Venkatramana, vice-chancellor of Gulf Medical University, added that the clinic transforms the educational process. “The Thumbay AI Clinic redefines how our students learn and how our faculty teach, research, and collaborate,” he noted. “Through partnerships with Zoom and HP | Poly, we are transforming classrooms and clinics into intelligent ecosystems that mirror the real-world dynamics of modern healthcare.”

The launch of the Thumbay AI Clinic positions GMU at the forefront of medical education, equipping its students with the essential skills to navigate a rapidly evolving healthcare landscape. The project serves as a model for integrating advanced technology into clinical training, ensuring future professionals are prepared for the challenges and opportunities of AI in medicine.
