Dubai’s Road and Transport Authority (RTA) has introduced new taxi fare changes, affecting rides booked through e-hail smart apps. The revised structure includes an increase in the minimum fare, as well as new peak-hour surcharges and booking fees, which vary depending on the day of the week.
New Taxi Fare Structure
The minimum fare for taxis in Dubai has risen from Dh12 to Dh13. Along with this, new peak-hour surcharges have been implemented. From Monday to Thursday, peak hours are set from 8am to 9.59am and 4pm to 7.59pm. During these times, riders will pay a Dh5 flagfall at the start of their journey, irrespective of the distance travelled, along with a Dh7.5 surcharge for peak hours.
Changes for Night and Weekend Fares
Outside of peak hours, the flagfall remains Dh5, with a Dh4 surcharge. Additionally, night commuters, from Monday to Thursday, will be charged a Dh5.5 flagfall and a Dh4.5 surcharge. On Fridays, peak hours run from 8am to 9.59am and 4pm to 9.59pm. From 10pm to 11.59pm, the flagfall increases to Dh5.5.
During weekends, peak hours are set for 4pm to 9.59pm, and again from 10pm to 11.59pm. The flagfall during the first peak-hour slot is Dh5, and during the second slot, it increases to Dh5.5, along with the usual Dh7.5 surcharge. Outside peak hours, the flagfall remains Dh5, and there is a Dh4 surcharge. Night commuters (from midnight to 5.59am) will pay a Dh5.5 flagfall and a Dh4.5 surcharge.
Impact on Dubai Commuters
These changes will affect daily commuters, particularly those using taxis during peak hours. The new system is designed to adjust fares based on demand and time, reflecting typical peak traffic patterns in the city. Taxi users should be aware of the new booking fees and surcharge rates depending on their travel times.
For those looking to avoid peak-hour surcharges, considering alternative transport options may be beneficial. The UAE: 6 traffic rules to follow when driving in the left lane in Dubai could also be useful for drivers navigating the city during busy periods.
These adjustments align with the RTA’s ongoing efforts to streamline transport services and ensure a smoother experience for both commuters and drivers.
