Mississippi Gulf Coast Fishing Report
last update 2/23
In South Mississippi
Cold fronts are changing weather conditions daily.
The fish pods are scattered and are either on the flats or on the edge of drop offs and holes as the water temps
are cold. The last few weeks have been cool so, the mornings when the tide is high, just before dark
is when to get them biting.
The bays are dirty with the rain keeping water murky.
The main focus for nearshore anglers continues to be speckled trout, white trout, redfish and flounder.
Inshore
While day time temps are in the mid and high 50's redfish, flounder and trout fishing have been good.
The fish have moved into the river mouths, bays and in the gulleys next to the bars in the Sound.
Early morning when the tide is moving and mid day when the air temp warms is the time to gett'em.
Although some parts of the river systems are murky, fishing is good in the dead lakes.
Near Singing River Island and up salty bayous the sheephead, bull reds, drum and flounder are biting
mostly hard to find live bait ,cut bait and dead shrimp.
Big numbers of white trout and flounder are being caught out on front beach and in the river.
As water temperatures are cold jigs and lures will be productive along deep drop offs.
Working lures slowly will usually bring bigger and more fish.
With much of the attention focused on the bays and rivers
Reports are that nice redfish are being caught on Horn island, Chandeleur and Isle au Pitre!
Offshore
Water temps are cool and fish have moved to structure like rocks, reefs and buoys.
Wahoo & AJ have been caught in the east on deep water rigs.
Tuna have been caught at the Ram Powell & Horn Mountain.
Cobia have been caught at the Deep Water Rigs.
KING have been caught at the shallow rigs aswell as the deep water rigs. ( New State Record )
